Royal Canadian Float Recovery Team......

The RCFRT(Royal Canadian Float Recovery Team)  came down for the day. The two member squad
displayed Canadian ingenuity and creativity in their recover of a custom made float tied up in some submerged branches. It was quite a site and made my day.

The weekend started off  with murky conditions on the  bigs and mids and the rain overnight made them increase in murk and flow even more as the weekend progressed.

I found one of the smalls murky with a tinge of green on Sunday which brought some success.

On Monday the above mentioned RCFRT of Bill and Frank joined me for the first time this season.
I take great pleasure fishing with these two gentleman and enjoyed the days and banter not to mention the priceless picture that their antics produced.

More rain  and wind to come mid to end of the week. I hazard to think when we will ever get back on the big trib short term.

Steelhead Monday....Well maybe not.

Last Friday I was excited with the hope to get in in three solid days of fishing but the weather Gods had their own plans. Saturday stream quality was a mixed bag. Most water was brown and murky with a few having just cleared . The steelhead gods graced me with  a few fish in clear and murky water to my surprise. There is something to say about fresh October fish. Some of them have the ability to give you  a shot of adrenaline and leave your knees a little wobbly.

Sunday the very gods that giveth  took away and punished me with lake effect rain. The steady rain which was heavy at time brought chocolate milk to all the tribs both big and small.

Well I guess we have all been praying for a good shot of precipitation to distribute the fish through all the tributaries both high and low in the systems.

We asked for and now we got it.

Columbus Day, Canadian Thanksgiving and......

And all the turkeys were out. A multitude of fisherman took to their piscatorial pursuits today. I was excited with positive reports earlier this week to hit the water but today was not yesterday nor the day before.

Today's conditions were receding flow levels, clearing water and high sun as the day went on.

I had to work hard for a few fish. Reports were if you beat the crowds and got to the right spot well then it was on. If not well then it was not all that and a bag of potato chips.

Better weather on the way later in the week.

GEARING UP AT COLVILLES............

The Lord said let there be light and there was light.....

 The last few weeks I have had fish on the brain so  I have been stopping into this little gem of steelhead excellence, Colville Outfitters.  The store is packed to the brim with all your steelhead and salmon needs.

 The store has all your centerpin brands..KP, Raven etc... and Colville's own sweet little reel design the Paragon. The paragon spins forever and would be a great addition to anyone's reel collection.

Needs waders or a new jacket???? Colvilles is Buffalo's local Simms dealer.
So if you want to pimp yourself out in Simm's style here is your place.

In addition, if your a float freak such as myself they have them all.

I would want to forget you fly guys out there. They have a fine selections of fly reels and rods... did I say Sage?

This little bit of promotion and advertising is completely unsolicited. It's just nice to have such a passionate local proprietor attempting to live their dream. The staff is friendly and love to fish as much as you do.

Now about the fishing, for last few weeks I have been walking the stream to get a little exercise and getting the lay of land for the new season. there isn't much going on now but the days are getting shorter and the next good flush of tributaries could be the ticket to get the fish moving in in numbers.

So cross your fingers and in the mean time stop into this great little steelhead joint.

Rumor has it ................

I have not been out in a while but rumor had it with the recent rain the water was up and some fish were in. I went to my my first spot of the day 15 minutes later than normal which provided the competition(5 other vehicles) a head start. My second choice for the day displayed that the flow data always doesn't match the real time conditions. Instead of finding the water up and green; I found it low and mostly clear except for a few spots. I was shut out from success and called quits a little earlier than normal. Tim Horton's was my best catch of the day. I took my large black with one sugar and went back to my cave.
